XIII DanzaXtrema Choreography Competition 2026

Applications are now open for the 13th DanzaXtrema Choreography Competition in Extremadura, Spain, supporting contemporary choreographic creation across all dance disciplines and techniques, for works between 10 and 15 minutes.

DanzaXtrema Choreography Competition celebrates its 13th edition in 2026 at Espacio Cinético TaKtá in Navalmoral de la Mata, Extremadura, Spain.
Organised by Paspie Danza, resident company at Espacio Cinético TaKtá, DanzaXtrema aims to support and promote choreographic creation from a contemporary perspective, regardless of the dance discipline or technique used.
The competition is open to choreographers of any nationality. Submitted works must be between 10 and 15 minutes long and may be performed by a maximum of four performers. Live music is permitted, with a maximum of two musicians using easily movable instruments.
From all applications received, the Selection Panel will select 3 works to participate directly in the Final on 24 October 2026, as well as 5 works for a preliminary round on 23 October. From the preliminary round, two additional works will be selected — one by the Jury and one by the audience — bringing the total number of works in the Final to five.
The Competition Final will take place on 24 October 2026, with a total of five finalist works.
First Prize: €5,000
Performance fee for each of the remaining works participating in the Final on 24 October: €1,200
Audience Award: €300 and an Extremaduran ham
The Jury will consist of national and/or international professionals and experts from the performing arts sector. Works will be assessed on originality, inventiveness, innovation and artistic risk, execution of choreographic ideas, command of choreographic and dance language, use of the performance space and its elements, and use of music.
DanzaXtrema is funded by the Ministerio de Cultura, through DGAEM, and by the Junta de Extremadura, through the Consejería de Cultura, Turismo y Deportes, with the support of the Ayuntamiento de Navalmoral de la Mata.
How to apply: Applicants must complete the online Application Form and provide all the information requested.
Applications must include a video of the complete work, without cuts, filmed in a fixed wide shot with all performers visible. The recording must show the final version of the piece, including all set and scenographic elements.
