Bryan Arias is a freelance choreographer based in Basel, Switzerland. Born in Puerto Rico and raised in New York City, Arias discovered his love for dance at a young age, drawn to the expressive and transformative nature of movement. Amidst the diverse dance forms of NYC, he explored various styles before discovering his passion for ballet and modern dance. As a performer, Arias performed with esteemed dance companies such as the Netherlands Dance Theater and Crystal Pite's company Kidd Pivot, contributing to some of their most celebrated works. Arias' choreographic journey has been characterized by a profound exploration of human emotion and the human condition. His works delve into themes of personal identity, vulnerability, resilience, and the intricate dynamics of human relationships. Arias has been commissioned to create original works for prestigious dance companies around the world, including The Netherlands Dance Theater, Zurich Ballet, Bolshoi Ballet, Scottish Ballet, Paul Taylor Dance Company, Leipzig Ballet, Hessisches Stattsballett,
Nürnberg Ballet, Ballet Basel, Bern Ballet, and Ballet du Rhin. In Vienna's esteemed Volksoper, Arias co-directed and choreographed the iconic musical "West Side Story".
Arias is the recipient of the esteemed German theater award Der Faust, the Jacobs Pillow Fellowship Award, the Princess Grace Choreography Award, nominated for the mentor and protégé award,
and was honored by the city of Ponce, Puerto Rico. The mayor recognized him for his significant contributions to the arts,
particularly in the field of dance and choreography.
