About Jiří Pokorný
Born in Prague, 25.07.1981
Jiří Pokorný is a Czech choreographer based in The Hague, Netherlands. He graduated from the Prague National Dance Conservatory in 2000 and went on dancing with Laterna Magika in Prague. Three years later he joined Nederlands Dans Theater 2 in The Hague and continued his carrier with NDT1. After seven years in NDT, Jiri joined Vancouver-based company KiddPivot under the leadership of Canadian choreographer Crystal Pite. Jiri has worked with many renowned choreographers such as Jiří Kylián, Mats Ek, Ohad Naharin, Paul Lightfoot, Sol Leon, and Crystal Pite among others. Jiri has performed in prestigious theatres worldwide, including Paris Opera, Sadler’s Wells London, Teatro Real Madrid, Teatro Liceu Barcelona, Joyce Theatre New York, and many more. In 2013, Jiri transitioned on to making his own works as a freelance choreographer and since then he has collaborated with companies and production houses across Europe and North America. To name a few, he created pieces for NDT, Aterballetto in Italy, Basel Ballet, National Theater Mannheim, Budapest Dance Theatre, Chamber Ballet Prague, North West Dance Project in Portland ( US ), and Korzo productions in the Hague. Jiri’s engagement with dance education has also its importance due to numerous collaborations with dance schools such as Royal Conservatory in The Hague, Juilliard School in New York, Arts Umbrella Vancouver, NDT’s Summer Intensive, SHARE Intensive Berlin, and Architanz Tokyo. Jiri directs his own educational program for young choreographers The Pioneer Project in Korzo Theatre, The Hague.

All Applicants must be professional or pre-professional dancers, movers, or performers, with a minimum age of 16 years old.

You must provide a maximum of 1-minute video link (Vimeo or Youtube) of your dancing either improvising or choreographed solo. No group piece. No Instagram or Facebook link.

A full detailed resume is to be uploaded (max 15Mb) or via a weblink (google drive, website, etc...)
Acceptance
Within 2 days after receiving your application form, we will send our response via email. 7 days to pay your tuition is required once our email is sent. Every un-paid application is canceled on the 8th day at 9 am.
You can pay via Credit Card or Offline by bank transfer.

SHARE Study
In this study program, you will have the unique opportunity to engage yourself with the choreographic language of Crystal Pite and Kidd Pivot improvisation tools led by Jiri Pokorny, a former Kidd Pivot company dancer, and stager. Over 6 days you will study and explore a large aspect of Kidd Pivot improvisation tools and Crystal Pite repertoire through a combination of research, development of choreographic material, and repertoire. This is a perfect program and opportunity to learn more about Crystal Pite’s broadly acclaimed work during SHARE | Festival ’24! Aligning with the high standards of our existing programs SHARE Intensive and SHARE Workshops, SHARE Study is designed with professional or pre-professional dancers, movers, or performers in mind.
Application Requirements
All applicants must be professional or pre-professional dancers, movers, or performers, with a minimum age of 16 years old. No amateurs will be accepted!
We need a recent and clear video link of your dancing (Vimeo or Youtube). We need to see your dancing, physicality, and artistic potential. We highly recommend a simple in-studio improvisation.

Deadline
On the first come first served basis, within the limited places we have.
Acceptance / Group Assignment
Accepted and non-accepted dancers will be notified by email within 2 working days of receiving your application.
Payment
Once you receive our confirmation email, an invoice is automatically sent in a separate email (check your spam box). This one is valid for 7 days and is automaticaly deleted by the platform if unpaid on the 8 day at 9 a.m. Berlin time (check your spam box).
About Crystal Pite
In a choreographic career spanning three decades, Crystal Pite has created more than 50 works for dance companies in Canada and around the world. She is the founding artistic director of the Vancouver-based company Kidd Pivot, world-renowned for radical hybrids of dance and theatre that are assembled with a keen sense of wit and invention. Ms. Pite is known for works that courageously address such challenging and complex themes as trauma, addiction, conflict, consciousness and mortality; her bold and original vision has earned her international acclaim and inspired an entire generation of dance artists.
